A dining scene that has found its confidence
Ten years ago, a “chic” dinner in Conakry almost always meant a big hotel restaurant. The scene has since widened: young Guinean chefs champion a refined cuisine rooted in local produce, independent restaurants have moved into the towers of Kipé and Koloma, and the corniche is lined with terraces where you dine almost with your feet in the water. Hotels remain safe bets, with polished service and often spectacular views.
We selected ten addresses active in 2025–2026, spotted in the Guinean press, in travel guides and on social media, where locals share their finds. They cluster around two hubs: Kaloum, the historic peninsula, and the Kipé–Koloma corridor, now the district of new tables.
A word on the city’s rhythm: people tend to dine late, from 8 pm onwards, and terraces fill up quickly at weekends. Sunday brunch has become a ritual for local families and for members of the diaspora back for the holidays, and many restaurants offer a dedicated menu that day. Expect a mix of business diners, birthday tables and couples on a night out — the atmosphere is lively but rarely formal, even in the smartest rooms.
The best of Guinean cuisine, reinvented
Le JacquierKipé (Ratoma)
Chef Yaya Barry’s restaurant, opened in July 2020, is probably the most distinctive table in town. Trained in Parisian kitchens and founder of the Kamy Egg cooking school, she reworks fonio, plantain and traditional sauces with precision and elegance. The architecture draws on Fouta Djallon houses and the walls are dressed in local fabrics. The obvious choice to introduce guests to Guinean gastronomy.
L’Adresse, Noom HotelKaloum
The Noom’s restaurant plays the “Afro-fusion” card: the executive chef’s creations blend local flavours with international classics, facing the sea. Come for lunch or dinner; the Sunday brunch has a loyal following. The ultra-modern setting suits business dinners as well as birthdays.
Dining high up or by the water
Siete, Riviera Royal HotelKaloum (Tombo)
On the top floor of the Riviera Royal, near the Palais du Peuple, Siete serves pan-Asian cuisine from Thailand to Japan, with sushi, meat and seafood. The view over the Atlantic and the city lights is a large part of the appeal. According to the hotel, it opens Tuesday to Sunday, in the evening.
L’AquariumKaloum, south corniche (Tombo)
Facing the sea near the Tombo mosque, L’Aquarium pairs Western and African cooking in a Mediterranean-inspired setting. Diners praise the squid starter and the beach view; at weekends, live music stretches the evenings.
Mille PattesSandervalia (Kaloum), west corniche
A large open-air terrace right on the ocean, a self-described “Afropean” menu, grills, fish and generous prawns: Mille Pattes draws a mixed crowd of Guineans and expatriates. Perfect for a lunch that drifts into late afternoon.
To enjoy these tables without crossing the city for every meal, choose your base wisely: Diatigui offers furnished apartments in Conakry, in Kaloum as well as Kipé, so you can live the city at your own pace.
Kipé, Koloma and the new tables
La FélicitéKipé (Ratoma)
An elegant, modern room, carefully plated dishes and cocktails that surprise: La Félicité is one of Kipé’s fine-dining tables. It serves lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, and its Sunday brunch is a neighbourhood fixture. Closed on Mondays.
KAKI Restaurant & BrasserieKoloma (Ratoma), Kakimbo residence
At the foot of the Kakimbo twin towers, KAKI offers a cosmopolitan menu with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean accents, where the chef also slips in reinvented Guinean dishes. Brunch on Sundays, live night on Fridays, booking required.
AvenueRésidence 2000 shopping centre (Moussoudougou)
A long-standing reference for sushi, Avenue is known for refined service and an elegant atmosphere, with other international dishes on the menu too. Reviews are clear: the sushi is excellent but expensive, so budget accordingly.
Two safe bets for a more relaxed meal
Italia BoxCamayenne (Dixinn)
Wood-fired pizzas, Italian-inspired dishes and pastries: Italia Box regularly tops travellers’ rankings. A precious address when the children want pizza and the parents still want a proper dinner.
Le PatioMinière (Dixinn)
A covered terrace over a garden, European and African cooking, meat and fish, and exhibitions by local artists: Le Patio is a warm address in Minière, also home to a bakery and pastry shop popular from early morning.
Booking and getting there
Book ahead at weekends, especially for rooftops and brunches. In the evening, use a trusted driver rather than a taxi hailed in the street, and allow plenty of time: traffic on the Route Le Prince and the expressway can double travel times between Kaloum and Kipé.
A few pointers before you book
- Cards are not accepted everywhere: keep Guinean francs on you.
- Smart dress is expected in hotel restaurants and on rooftops.
- Opening hours and menus change: check the venue’s social media before heading out.
- For a group or a special occasion, call ahead: many places will put together a tailored menu.
From Chef Yaya Barry’s cooking to Avenue’s sushi, these ten addresses sketch a gourmet Conakry that is open to the world. The hardest part is deciding where to start.
