Car rental in Guinea: Conakry and the whole country

Renting a car in Guinea is not the same as renting one elsewhere in West Africa. Outside Conakry, the road network, unreliable signage, checkpoints and the rainy season turn a simple journey into an operation that has to be planned.

Diatigui covers Conakry and the entire country — Boké, Kamsar, Kindia, Mamou, Labé, Kankan, Siguiri, N'Zérékoré, Fria, Boffa and the Simandou area — with insured vehicles and drivers who have already run the requested route.

Can you rent a car without a driver in Guinea?

It is the question we are asked most, and our answer is no — not with us. Here is why, plainly:

Some providers do offer self-drive in Conakry. For strictly urban travel with a driver who already knows the city, that is workable. As soon as you leave Conakry, it really is not.

  • signage is sparse and routes do not always match online maps;
  • road checkpoints involve exchanges that go better with someone from the country;
  • in a breakdown or a puncture 200 km from Conakry, help depends on your local network, not a hotline;
  • most international organizations prohibit their staff from self-driving in Guinea;
  • a professional driver costs less than one lost mission day.

What our service covers in Guinea

We distinguish three scopes, with different rates and different vehicles:

  • Conakry: city travel, meetings, airport transfers, by the day or on monthly assignment. A sedan is enough in most cases;
  • short runs: Kindia, Fria, Boffa, Coyah — feasible as a same-day return, in an SUV or 4x4 depending on the final access;
  • up-country missions: Boké, Kamsar, Mamou, Labé, Kankan, Siguiri, N'Zérékoré, the Simandou area — 4x4 mandatory, mission planned in stages, driver per diem and accommodation contracted in advance.

The rainy season changes everything

From May to October, track passability becomes the deciding factor, ahead of comfort and ahead of price. Village access roads in the Fouta Djallon, mine tracks around Siguiri and the approaches in Forest Guinea can be cut for days.

In that period we plan missions with a margin rather than a timetable, and we decline runs we judge impassable. That is more honest than billing for a stranded vehicle.

Documents, insurance and compliance

All our vehicles are insured and roadworthy, checked before every up-country mission. Each driver's licence, experience and references are verified. Documents can be audited by your finance department on request, and the last check date appears on the vehicle listing.

A quote before the service, a compliant invoice with TIN and VAT, bank transfer at 30 or 60 days by agreement: that is our standard, not an option.

On arrival

A driver meets you at Conakry airport

Whatever time you land, your driver greets you in the arrivals hall of Ahmed Sékou Touré airport, name board in hand, and takes you straight to your accommodation. The transfer can be added to any vehicle rental or booked on its own.

Frequently asked questions

Can you rent a car without a driver in Guinea?

Some providers offer it in Conakry, but we do not. Outside the capital, signage, track conditions, checkpoints and the absence of roadside assistance make self-driving risky. Most international organizations prohibit it for their staff in Guinea anyway.

How much does car rental cost in Guinea?

From about $81 per day for a sedan with driver in Conakry to $407 per day for a 4x4 on a mission in the forest or mining regions. Fuel and the driver's per diem are priced separately on up-country missions.

Do you cover the whole of Guinea?

Yes: Conakry, Lower Guinea (Boké, Kamsar, Kindia, Fria, Boffa), the Fouta Djallon (Mamou, Labé), Upper Guinea (Kankan, Siguiri) and Forest Guinea (N'Zérékoré, the Simandou area). Each route has its own page with distance, real duration and recommended vehicle.

Do I need an international driving permit in Guinea?

The question does not arise with us: our vehicles are driven by our own drivers, who hold the required licences and documents. That is one of the reasons our clients choose the with-driver format.
