Tabaski, or Eid al-Adha, the feast of sacrifice, is the biggest religious holiday of the year in Guinea. In 2026, the authorities declared 27 and 28 May paid public holidays, with a main prayer at 9 am nationwide, and activity slowed well beyond that, through the following weekend. In 2027, the holiday is expected around 16 or 17 May, the final date depending on the sighting of the crescent moon and the official announcement.
For business travellers, it is a period to avoid for institutional meetings: government offices and many companies slow down for several days. For the diaspora and families, it is one of the highlights of the calendar: many people return home, markets come alive and travel to the interior increases.
For visitors: families coming home for the holiday appreciate a furnished apartment to gather, cook and host, with more space than a hotel. Booking early is advised, as demand is high around the date.
