The Simandou Mining Summit (SMS) is the flagship mining event launched by the Guinean state around the Simandou 2040 programme, which plans some USD 200 billion of investment and 122 strategic projects. It is led by the Simandou Strategic Committee, the Ministry of Mines and Geology and the Guinea Development Board, with Africa Practice and Fastmarkets as delivery partners and support from the Guinea Chamber of Mines.
The programme runs over four days: an invitation-only opening ceremony on 11 November on Kassa Island, a former bauxite mining area off Kaloum; ministerial dialogues, executive roundtables, investor forums, technical sessions and business meetings on 12 and 13 November at the Radisson Blu hotel; and visits to mining and infrastructure sites on 14 November. More than 1,000 participants from some forty countries are expected: mining executives, investors, banks, rail and port infrastructure developers, contractors and policymakers.
For visitors: Conakry's hotel capacity is under heavy pressure during the summit. A furnished apartment in Kipé, near the Radisson Blu, or in Kaloum, the departure point for Kassa, gives you room to work, host meetings and prepare, and suits teams extending their stay.
