Circus Baobab, sous l'égide du ministère de la Culture, du Tourisme et de l'Artisanat

Guinea claims a central place in the history of the djembe, and this festival aims to make it an international showcase. After a first edition in 1999 and a relaunch in 2024, the International Djembe and Percussion Festival returns to Conakry from 8 to 13 December 2026. It is delivered by Circus Baobab, under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Handicrafts.

The announced line-up brings together elder masters such as Famoudou Konaté and Fatou Abou Camara, artist Ba Cissoko, the Ballets Djoliba and the Sabou Gnouma ensemble, with concerts, demonstrations and transmission between generations. A festival village is planned in the Matam neighbourhood. The stated goals are to strengthen Guinea's cultural reach and support the cultural, tourism and craft economy.

The festival draws drummers and dancers from around the world, many of whom also come for workshops: it is one of the best times of the year to experience Guinean music first-hand.

For visitors: over a full week, a furnished apartment offers more comfort and independence than a hotel room, especially for groups of musicians or workshop participants staying beyond the festival.
