Vehicle with an English-speaking driver in Conakry
Guinea is francophone, and a significant share of UN agency, international NGO and mining company staff is not. A driver who cannot explain a checkpoint, confirm a route or flag a problem to their passenger turns an ordinary journey into a source of stress.
Diatigui assigns English-speaking drivers on request, in priority for airport pickups, up-country missions and assignments to non-French-speaking staff.

Where English genuinely matters
This is not about conversation, it is about specific situations:
- the airport pickup, when the passenger arrives tired and without bearings;
- road checkpoints, where the driver must be able to explain what is happening;
- up-country missions, where the programme changes on the road and has to be renegotiated with the passenger;
- industrial or mine site visits, where safety instructions must be understood on both sides;
- long assignments, where the driver becomes the passenger's daily point of contact.
Actual level, not claimed level
On the Guinean market, “English-speaking driver” covers a very wide range. We test the level at recruitment in situations close to the field — explaining a route, describing an incident, reporting a delay — and we state each driver's real level without inflating it.
When we have no English-speaking driver available at the level a mission requires, we say so rather than assign someone who will not hold the conversation.
Book ahead
The number of genuinely English-speaking drivers is limited in Guinea, including in our own team. For a mission that requires one, tell us at booking rather than on arrival: we reserve the driver for the period. For framework agreements with anglophone organizations, we dedicate drivers for the contract term.

A driver meets you at Conakry airport
Whatever time you land, your driver greets you in the arrivals hall of Ahmed Sékou Touré airport, name board in hand, and takes you straight to your accommodation. The transfer can be added to any vehicle rental or booked on its own.

Do all your drivers speak English?
No, and we do not claim they do. Part of our team is English-speaking, at a level we test at recruitment against real field situations. State the requirement at booking and we assign a driver whose level genuinely matches.
Is there a surcharge for an English-speaking driver?
No, the rate is the same. The only constraint is availability: the number of genuinely English-speaking drivers is limited in Guinea, so book ahead.
Can you dedicate an English-speaking driver for several months?
Yes, that is the usual format for anglophone organizations: a dedicated driver for the contract term, with an identified and briefed replacement for absences.
Can the driver meet a passenger at the airport in English?
Yes, and it is the use case we prioritise. The driver waits in the arrivals hall with the passenger's name on a board, and can explain the route, the duration and the formalities in English.
